HeYou International Hospital Project Wins 2022 BLT Built Design Award

The BLT Built Design Award in Los Angeles, USA, aims to recognize professionals and expertise involved in creating outstanding architectural projects worldwide, including architectural firms, interior design experts, construction products, and project management. The award encompasses various forms of buildings, projects, and infrastructure to address today's urbanization challenges and inspire future generations.

Previously, the HeYou International Hospital project has also won multiple world-class awards, including the German ICONIC Award, the WAF World Architecture Festival Award, the WAN World Architecture News Award, the American MUSE Design Award, the American Masterprize Architect Award, the American IDA International Design Award, the Italian A'Design Award, and the CHCC China Hospital Construction Award (Top Ten Interior Design).



Human-Centered Design: Creating a Garden Hospital


The HeYou International Hospital project originates from the philanthropic vision of Mr. He Xiangjian, founder of Midea, to "benefit the hometown and give back to society." Funded by Midea Holdings with an investment of over 10 billion RMB, the hospital is designed according to the standards of a domestic Grade 3A general hospital and international quality certification systems, aiming to become a high-level, non-profit general hospital.


Designed by the top-tier international architectural firm BAI Design International, the HeYou International Hospital project adopts the concept of a garden hospital to create a green, intelligent, and sustainable healthcare benchmark. Located in the Beijiao New City area of Shunde District, Foshan City, the project has a total construction area of 580,000 square meters. As a comprehensive medical center, the architectural design philosophy of the HeYou International Hospital project shifts from traditional treatment-oriented to health-oriented. The master plan adopts the concept of a "garden hospital," seamlessly integrating medical functions with the natural environment.


In terms of medical functional layout, the project introduces the concept of a "life-cycle building." The planned "plug-in" modular medical unit system can expand outward as functions evolve in the future. This multi-dimensional, expandable construction method is more suitable for the development of medical technology innovation and facilitates long-term functional expansion.


Inspired by the crisscrossing rivers of the Shunde water town, the project introduces landscape axes and opens up viewing corridors, allowing medical spaces to interact visually with nature, creating a healing internal spatial experience. The interconnected landscape axes are closely linked with various functions. The outpatient, medical technology, and inpatient areas of the medical complex, along with the indoor-outdoor spatial structure coexisting with nature, open up to enclosed natural courtyards, breaking the boundaries of the building and achieving a fusion of indoor space and nature.


The building complex incorporates open spaces such as courtyards and sky gardens, bringing sunlight, fresh air, and greenery into the medical space, making it more friendly to people. Through an indoor environment that coexists with nature and experiential medical services, adhering to the "human-centered" design philosophy, both medical staff and patients can experience a healing environment adjacent to nature and parks from all angles.


Building a World-Class International Medical Complex


The HeYou International Hospital project is committed to creating a low-carbon, energy-efficient urban health living room. It employs parametric design methods and advanced energy-saving technologies to reduce energy consumption, allowing energy-saving technology and healthcare to coexist. Parametric design is also used to simulate and control parameters such as indoor lighting and constant temperature and humidity on the building surface, achieving optimal internal spatial quality.

The HeYou International Hospital project is also the first private hospital in China to apply a reticulated shell structure to its main building. Its steel reticulated shell structure adopts "numerical simulation + local integral lifting" and "assembly construction + 3D laser scanning technology + integrated lifting of the shell and electromechanical systems," with technological innovation reaching a leading domestic level.



The HeYou International Hospital project held its groundbreaking ceremony on November 13, 2020, and achieved the topping out of its main building on November 13, 2022. The hospital is scheduled to officially commence operations on June 28, 2024, striving to become a first-class, high-level, non-profit general hospital.


Upon completion, the HeYou International Hospital project will focus on establishing six Centers of Excellence: Comprehensive Cancer Center, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Brain Science and Neurology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Women's and Children's Health, and Health Management Center. It will introduce clinical medical research, service, and talent cultivation systems aligned with world-class standards, striving to become an international-standard, domestically leading, Guangdong-featured, non-profit, comprehensive, and international hospital serving the Greater Bay Area and beyond.
