Mr. Fang, 34 years old, lives in Guangzhou. On a weekend, he visited relatives in Beijiao, Foshan. At exactly 10:00 AM, he suddenly felt chest pain, a crushing pain in the precordial area, accompanied by dyspnea and profuse sweating. Initially, he did not take it seriously, thinking it was just due to heavy work and staying up late, and that it would pass. However, the chest pain did not subside but gradually worsened. “Quick, quick, quick… Activate the catheterization lab immediately, open the chest pain green channel!” After receiving the emergency consultation call, Professor Cao Shiping, Director of the Cardiology Department, quickly arrived at the Emergency Department to assess Mr. Fang's condition and notified the catheterization lab to prepare for surgery. The Chest Pain Center team swiftly activated the green channel, preparing for Mr. Fang's emergency coronary intervention. Amidst the sound of hurried wheels, at 13:08, the emergency medical staff transferred Mr. Fang to the catheterization lab.

 

At 13:27, coronary angiography was successfully completed. The angiogram revealed complete occlusion of the proximal left anterior descending artery, with visible thrombus shadows. Director Cao skillfully maneuvered the guidewire through the occlusion, aspirated several white thrombi using a suction catheter, and a repeat angiogram showed restored blood flow in the LAD. However, there was still 80% stenosis in the proximal LAD. Director Cao implanted a stent at the stenosis site, successfully restoring vessel patency and achieving revascularization. The surgery was successfully completed at 13:38, promptly preventing further deterioration of the heart attack, and Mr. Fang's chest pain symptoms were significantly alleviated.

Acute myocardial infarction is the sudden occlusion of a coronary artery, leading to an interruption of blood supply and subsequent persistent ischemia and necrosis of myocardial tissue. Since myocardial necrosis is irreversible, even with timely treatment, it can result in impaired cardiac function and potential long-term sequelae.
