The 2023 CNBC Global Technology Conference concluded on the evening of the 18th in Nansha, Guangzhou. In an exclusive interview with Southern Finance All Media, he revealed that the world's most advanced proton and heavy ion integrated machine will be shipped from Japan to Shunde, Foshan, and deployed at HeYou International Hospital Group, with clinical trials planned for 2026. "Cancer patients in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area will have a better treatment experience, which is also a blessing brought by the Bay Area's active embrace of the world's cutting-edge technology," said Lu Jiade.
As a leading authority with over 20 years of research and clinical experience in the medical fields of the United States and Singapore, he told Southern Finance All Media that, to his knowledge, this proton and heavy ion integrated machine in Shunde is currently the most advanced model in the world. Compared with traditional treatments, this device improves tumor control rates and patient survival rates while significantly reducing chemotherapy side effects.
Lu Jiade told reporters that China's first integrated proton and heavy ion device was successfully introduced and put into clinical application in Shanghai in 2014. At that time, as Executive Vice President, he led clinical research and operations, achieving remarkable results. He only left Shanghai in 2022 to join HeYou International Hospital Group in Foshan. It is also reported that, as key infrastructure for cutting-edge technology, the development of domestically produced heavy ion therapy devices and proton devices has seen breakthroughs in recent years, but a gap still exists compared to the most advanced technology.
Regarding the recent trend of domestic medical institutions heavily investing in purchasing proton or heavy ion devices, Lu Jiade believes that equipment is only an external factor, while talent is the internal factor. Whether there are relevant talents who can effectively utilize the equipment is crucial. To his knowledge, there is currently a shortage of professional application talents in the field of proton and heavy ion therapy in China. Based on this, he plans to focus on cultivating a group of clinical application experts for the integrated proton and heavy ion device at HeYou International Hospital.
"We will break away from traditional research mechanisms, not using paper publication as the sole assessment criterion, and encourage doctors to think more and explore more in clinical practice, continuously improving and enhancing the application methods and standards of the integrated machine to provide patients with a better treatment experience." He also revealed that HeYou has already recruited over thirty clinical specialty leaders from well-known medical institutions nationwide, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, to work in Foshan.
