Recently, the well-known anti-cancer blogger @Dafei

posted a heartbreaking message:

Ran Fei, only 29 years old,

passed away after a three-year battle with liver cancer

This news once again turned the public’s attention

to liver cancer, known as the “king of cancers.”

In recent years, not only have many celebrities died of liver cancer,

but the age of liver cancer patients detected in health checkups is also getting younger,

with even 18-year-old patients being diagnosed.

So, why is liver cancer becoming more common in younger people?

Why are most liver cancer patients diagnosed at an advanced stage?

Facing the “Silent Killer,” how can we stay away?

70% of Liver Cancer Patients Diagnosed at Advanced Stage

According to WHO estimates, there were approximately 900,000 new cases of liver cancer globally in 2020, of which China accounted for 45.3%; in the same year, there were about 830,000 deaths from liver cancer worldwide, with China accounting for 47.1%.

The most important reason for this high mortality rate is that 71% of liver cancer patients in China are diagnosed at an advanced stage.

Why are over 70% of liver cancer patients in China already at an advanced stage when diagnosed? There are three main reasons:

Early-stage Liver Cancer Symptoms and Signs Are Not Obvious

The liver is a silent organ; it is not good at expressing its discomfort. Once symptoms appear, it often indicates that the disease is already quite advanced.

“Liver cancer is a hepatic malignancy with an insidious onset. Initially, patients often only experience non-specific symptoms such as fatigue and weakness. Additionally, because the liver has a strong compensatory capacity, many liver cancer patients are already at an advanced stage when diagnosed.”

Insufficient Health Awareness and Low Regular Checkup Rates

Young people often believe they are healthy and neglect the importance of regular checkups. Even with high-risk factors such as hepatitis virus infection or long-term unhealthy habits, they fail to undergo timely liver examinations, leading to delayed diagnosis.

Misdiagnosis or Missed Diagnosis

In some areas with relatively poor medical conditions, due to a lack of physician experience or outdated diagnostic equipment, liver cancer may be misdiagnosed or missed. Furthermore, because the symptoms of liver cancer are similar to those of other diseases, misdiagnosis can also occur.

Why Is Liver Cancer Becoming More Common in Younger People?

The younger age of liver cancer patients is mainly due to the fast pace of social life and high work pressure. To keep up with the times, people are forced to overdraw their health.

Therefore, the younger age of liver cancer patients is closely related to our environment, lifestyle, dietary habits, and psychological factors.
