HeYou Hospital Joins Multiple Parties to Launch the Critical Illness Support Project in Malipo County, Yunnan

On April 11, 2025, facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with strong support from the China Foundation for Rural Development, the launch ceremony of the "HeFeng RenXin Critical Illness Support Project" was officially held at the People's Hospital of Malipo County, Wenshan Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

The HeFeng RenXin Critical Illness Support Project is a charitable medical assistance initiative funded by the He Foundation's HeFeng RenXin Health and Public Welfare Charitable Trust. It is implemented in underdeveloped counties across the country by organizations such as the China Foundation for Rural Development and the Zhonghe Promotion Center, employing a multi-party collaborative model involving charitable trusts, charitable organizations, and designated hospitals. Through this multi-party collaborative funding model, the project provides medical charitable assistance and care services to vulnerable patient populations in underdeveloped areas, enabling them to receive high-quality and effective treatment, alleviating their families' financial burdens, and thereby reducing the risk of poverty caused or exacerbated by illness among vulnerable groups in these regions. As a key professional medical service provider, Foshan HeYou Hospital (hereinafter referred to as HeYou Hospital) actively responds to the call of the Healthy China strategy, fully leverages its medical resource advantages, and deeply participates in this charitable project.

Under the leadership of Liu Gaiqing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' representative for county-level assistance, member of the Standing Committee of the County Party Committee, and Deputy County Mayor, the unveiling ceremony was jointly attended by Xiao Changju, Deputy Secretary of the Malipo County Party Committee and County Mayor; Yu Zhouzi, Head of the Healthy Development Project Department of the China Foundation for Rural Development; Li Li, Party Committee Secretary of HeYou International Hospital Group and Chairman of HeYou Hospital; and Situ Ying, Chairman of the He Foundation.

I. Multi-Party Collaboration to Build a Health Bridge

The HeFeng RenXin Health and Public Welfare Charitable Trust was established by the He Foundation with approval from the Department of Civil Affairs of Guangdong Province. It aims to leverage high-quality medical care as a professional foundation, build an effective healthcare delivery system through "medical-social collaboration," support the high-quality development of health public welfare, and enable patients to achieve physical healing, mental health, and social support. As a designated county for targeted assistance by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malipo County is located along the 272-kilometer China-Vietnam border. Its 240,000 residents have long faced a shortage of high-quality medical resources. By integrating social resources, the project provides local patients with free disease screening, expert health consultations, and referral treatment support.

II. Expert Empowerment: Health Consultations Benefit the People

As the technical support unit for the "Party Building Leading · HeFeng RenXin Health Public Welfare Project," the Cardiac Surgery team of HeYou Hospital brings together top expert resources. Professor Li Dongyu, Director of the Cardiac Surgery Department at HeYou Hospital, is a nationally renowned expert who has performed nearly 10,000 complex cardiac surgeries, including the first heart transplant surgery at China Medical University. In 2001, he pioneered off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery in Liaoning Province. He is particularly skilled in complex congenital heart disease surgeries for infants and children, minimally invasive valve surgeries, and coronary artery bypass grafting, with extensive clinical experience in heart valve repair and major vascular surgeries such as aortic dissection. Professor Li Dongyu's team will enhance the accessibility of universal healthcare through a tripartite model of "health consultation, technical collaboration, and critical illness assistance." Currently, HeYou Hospital has established a treatment system covering the full cycle of cardiac diseases, capable of performing high-difficulty surgeries including Tetralogy of Fallot and aortic dissection, fully meeting the stringent standards of over 10,000 surgical cases and hybrid operating rooms as required by the "Requirements for Medical Assistance Institutions and Surgeons."

During the event, Professor Li Dongyu led the medical team in providing one-on-one health consultation services for local patients with cardiac needs and offered diagnostic and treatment recommendations for complex cases. Concurrently, a "clinical teaching" session was held, with some medical staff from the People's Hospital of Malipo County participating in observation and learning. Additionally, the project team established a green referral channel, providing surgical fee reductions and priority treatment services for patients meeting the assistance criteria.

III. Deepening Cooperation: Building a Long-Term Collaborative Mechanism

On the day before the event (the afternoon of April 10), the project team also arranged a special session for grassroots doctors to exchange ideas. "From the Northeast to the Southwest, the healer's heart remains unchanged." Professor Li Dongyu stated at the exchange meeting, "We will establish a long-term mechanism of 'remote consultation + regular collaboration,' allowing border-area residents to access high-quality medical care close to home."

Professor Li Dongyu engaged in in-depth discussions with medical staff from the People's Hospital of Malipo County on cardiac disease diagnosis and treatment techniques, sharing cutting-edge experiences in minimally invasive surgery and treatment of congenital heart disease in infants and children. HeYou Hospital committed to providing ongoing advanced training opportunities for local medical personnel and to routinely support the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases through its remote consultation platform.

Furthermore, accompanied by Liu Gaiqing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' representative for county-level assistance, member of the Standing Committee of the County Party Committee, and Deputy County Mayor, representatives from HeYou Hospital and the Foundation visited the homes of patients in need to gain a deeper understanding of their health requirements. A family member of a pediatric patient expressed: "We are grateful that the experts have traveled so far to the border area. Our child finally has hope for a cure!" The visiting team simultaneously distributed "Health Care Packages" and project contact cards to ensure seamless follow-up treatment.

In the future, the project will collaborate with more social forces to gradually expand the scope of disease assistance, building a stronger health defense line for border-area residents.

Covers a total of 8 disease categories, including congenital heart disease (ventricular septal defect, Tetralogy of Fallot, etc.) and heart valve disease (mitral stenosis, aortic regurgitation, etc.), which must be clearly diagnosed by ultrasound and meet surgical indications.
