HeYou Hospital Ranks on Fortune China Best Design List
The Fortune China Best Design List aims to identify and honor outstanding designs that address complex problems based on genuine human needs, possess commercial potential, or can bring lasting impact to social development. The 50 design concepts on the list are all design innovations that are becoming the starting point of new products and new industrial value chains, reflecting the designers' humanistic care and social responsibility.
Design Concept: “Health-Centered”
The project originates from the philanthropic aspiration of Midea's founder, He Xiangjian, to “benefit the hometown and give back to society.” Funded and established by Midea Holdings, it is located in the core of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area — Foshan Sanlongwan Science and Technology City, with a total construction area of 580,000 square meters.
The medical complex represents the future trend of hospital development, advocating for a more harmonious integration of medical architecture with urban life. Based on this, HeYou proposed the concept of the “Bay Area Health Living Room.” Designed by the top-tier design team, Bogle Architects, for its main hospital construction projects (HeYou Hospital, HeYou Zhizhen Hospital, etc.), the design concept shifts from the traditional “treatment-centered” approach to a “health-centered” one, committed to highlighting the importance of humanistic care and customer experience, creating a healing internal spatial experience.
The exterior style of HeYou Hospital's main building draws inspiration from the characteristics of Shunde's Lingnan water towns. The main facade unfolds gently along the winding southern water surface in the purest, most transparent, and natural way. The exterior uses low-transmittance, low-heat-transfer-coefficient insulating glass, combined with low-energy technology materials such as adjustable tensioned membranes and roof light sensors, equipped with intelligent ventilation systems and high-efficiency solar/photovoltaic integrated curtain walls, creating a green, environmentally friendly, and intelligent medical benchmark.
The interior of the hospital's main building cleverly utilizes natural lighting and ventilation. By creating semi-outdoor landscape spaces such as enclosed courtyards, sky gardens, and art corridors, sunlight, air, and greenery are introduced into the interior space, allowing the building to grow from the site. With a green rate of up to 30%, the entire hospital resembles a large urban garden, effectively reducing stress for patients and medical staff, realizing the vision of symbiosis between humans and nature.
Hospital Scheduled for Official Operation in June Next Year
HeYou Hospital is also the first private hospital in China to apply a grid shell structure to its main building. Its unique appearance will become a distinctive landmark in the medical and health field.

HeYou's “Bay Area Health Living Room” concept highlights publicness and artistry, earning unanimous recognition from the architectural community. The project has successively won multiple world-class architectural awards, including the 2021 German Iconic Awards · Innovative Architecture, the 2021 World Architecture News Awards Silver in the Future Health category, and the 2021 World Architecture Festival Awards.
Since the project commenced construction on November 13, 2020, all work has progressed smoothly. To date, the main structures of the first-phase key buildings, including the administrative office building, the outpatient and inpatient complex of HeYou Hospital, and HeYou Zhizhen Hospital, have been topped out. Decoration, mechanical and electrical engineering, and finishing works have been successively completed. In August 2023, the administrative office building was put into use. HeYou Hospital and HeYou Zhizhen Hospital are scheduled to officially commence operations on June 28, 2024.
